About:
Edgewater is a study in quiet permanence, designed for a young family planting roots along a remarkable stretch of the Ottawa River. With unobstructed views of Gatineau Park and its rolling hills, the site called for an architecture with poise and presence — a home conceived not for a single generation, but for the ones that will follow.
Preserving the property's mature trees along the front of the lot was a top priority, shaping the home's footprint and arrival sequence from the outset. The design also worked within the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority's setback requirements, turning a regulatory constraint into the organizing logic for a home that makes full use of its waterfront site.
Designed for a family who loves to entertain, the home balances generous hosting spaces with an unwavering focus on the view. A screened-in outdoor living space was carefully sited to give the family room to gather outdoors without ever obstructing the panorama from inside — the river and the hills remain the focal point from nearly every principal room. Interior sight lines were studied in detail to maximize this connection to the landscape, ensuring the view is never far from sight, whether the family is gathered at the kitchen island or relaxing by the fire.
Every material and proportion was chosen with longevity in mind, resulting in an exterior that feels as composed and timeless as the landscape it sits within. The result is a home built not to make a passing impression, but a lasting one — for this family, and for the generations to come.
